Jerry Ross Barrish presents the "Spring Fever" Exhibition from January 31 to March 7, with a reception on February 14 from 1-3 PM. A sculptor and fourth-generation San Franciscan, Barrish creates narrative sculptures from recycled plastics. His studio is adorned with large and small-scale figures of dancers, musicians, animals, and birds. Barrish, a figurative artist, initially crafted assemblages from found objects along the southeastern shoreline, progressing to more recent bronze sculptures.
Artist Statement: Barrish's assemblage/constructions use found objects from San Francisco's beaches, bayshore, roadways, and recycling centers, focusing on plastic items. Enthralled by this material, he employs a hot glue gun akin to a welding torch, allowing spontaneity. The figurative nature of subjects reveals his storytelling inclination. Barrish captures gesture, form, and movement, bringing life to discarded societal debris. The completion of each piece, sometimes unplanned, reflects the magic and freedom inherent in his artistic process.
